AUTOMATIC DVB PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT TOOL
Motorola develops set-top boxes for IP-based infrastructures but most products also exist in versions supporting terrestrial and cable TV infrastructures respectively. The DVB-C standard is used for cable-TV broadcasts and DVB-T is used for terrestrial TV-broadcast in Europe. Many countries in Europe have already replaced the older analog broadcasts with the digital DVB-T or are the process of doing so.
The DVB-C and DVB-T frontends (tuners) are complex RF-electronics that are very sensitive to noise. Also, the software that controls these parts must be carefully fine-tuned in order to perform the very best possible. There are some different standards that specify what performance that one should expect from a DVB receiver. These standards are complex and involve thousands of measurements.
An automated DVB performance measurement tool would increase the quality and decrease the development time needed for each product. It would come very handy to repeat the measurements in an iterative process when fine tuning the hardware and software for performance.
Decrease the time needed to fully evaluate the DVB performance.
Design and implement an automatic DVB measurement system running in a PC to be used on the Motorola product range. The work includes the test application itself but also to control the calibrated signal generator, Rohde & Schwartz SFU and present the test result for the user.

Master of Science in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering or similar. Knowledge in Windows programming, Visual Studio C/C++, embedded programming on Linux in C/C++ and SQL.
