Foxp3+ Regulatory T cells in arthritis

Foxp3+ Regulatory T cells are critically involved in preventing autoimmunity, allergy, tumor immunity and promoting organ transplantation. We are focusing our research on the role of Foxp3+ Regulatory T cells in models of rheumatoid arthritis. The research is specialized on specific suppressive mechanisms utilized by Regulatory T cells, in particular CTLA-4. In addition we are also studying the effect of reactive oxygen species on Regulatory T cell function in vivo.

As part of this project students will learn both in vivo and in vitro techniques for studies of the immune system. For example advanced breeding, immunization, disease scoring, cell culture, cell subset isolation, flow cytometry, ELISA, histology and PCR.

Students should have an interest in immunology and be motivated. The particular design and length of the project will be agreed upon contact. If you can spend a longer time in the lab it is preferable but shorter projects can also be discussed.
