BUILDING AN ANDROID APP FOR YACHT ALARM
We are offering an opportunity for a very exciting x-job where you will design an application for yacht alarms. The alarm will work as an application on a mobile phone that is concealed in the yacht, and use a combination of inputs from the phone’s GPS, motion sensor, microphone etc to trigger alarms of various kinds if something unexpected happens. Like if the yacht moves away from the harbor, hits a rock, has an intrusion etc. The application will be connected to a web service where the user can administrate the service and set his alerts etc, and be able to the whereabouts of his vessel from home or from his mobile.
The project includes scooping out the use cases and requirements together with the company, select the most suitable platform (that we believe to be Android, but we may be wrong…), build a prototype, test and calibrate sensors, and connect to an existing web service (that may need to be modified for the new functionality required), and build a final version that can be released to the market.
We believe the challenges here include creating a robust application, calibration of sensors, designing the logic for combining the various sensory inputs to determine when to trigger an alarm, to some extent mastering Android peculiarities, and overall usability to create a very nice user experience and useful service.
