Sterilization methods for invasive brain surgery devies

The Leksell Stereotactic System (LSS) is a high precision system for localizing and treat targets deep in the brain for various indications. It has been available on the market for a long time and has to be sterile when used on patients. To achieve sterility of the product it has to be sufficiently clean prior to the sterilization process. There are various cleaning methods and detergent available on the market, designed for different materials and methods. Since Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (mad cow disease) has been a well known disease, the requirements for achieving a sterile product has changed and the medical device manufacturer have to adopt to these requirements.
