Master thesis in the field of model-based development of automotive embedded systems

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
INTRODUCTION

Embedded system based products are becoming common in our daily life. These products range from a simple microwave or a mobile telephone to an advanced automobile or aircraft. New features and innovations are made possible due to the inclusion of more and more embedded computers and increased communication between them. However, the development complexity has also increased in several ways. Model-based development i.e. use of computerized models is considered as one of the promising ways for handling complexities in the development process. Several architectural description languages (ADLs) have been proposed as model-based development solution for specification of embedded systems architectures. These ADLs have varying focus and cover aspects like behavior, structure, communication and requirements. The industrial adoption of ADLs is still limited probably due to a lack of supporting tools. As the system complexity is growing the need for such ADLs also grows. A better understanding of the characteristics, pros and cons of each ADLs as well as the harmonization of different ADLs should facilitate industrial adoption.

THESIS DESCRIPTION

The thesis work will contribute towards the characterization, evaluation and harmonization of different ADLs such as EAST-ADL and AADL by evaluating their support using an automotive case study. The case study concerns cooperative driving and more specifically, vehicle convoying. The tasks of the thesis include modeling of system architecture at different abstraction levels in different design environments, simulations, theoretical studies (including studying a selected number of ADLs) and ADL evaluation. The criteria for ADL evaluation should also be established during the course of the project. During the thesis, a student may get opportunities of collaboration and contact with our industrial partners.

DURATION AND CREDITS:

The duration of the thesis will be 20 working weeks which is equivalent to the credits of 30hp. The student working on the thesis will get a progress based payment for the work.
