IKEA of Sweden, or IoS, is responsible for developing the IKEA range and making it available to stores and customers all over the world. IoS is based in Älmhult – the heart of IKEA and the centre of IKEA range development. Expressed in terms of IKEAs three main processes, IoS leads the processes called “Creating the Home Furnishings Offer and Supplying”. IoS also takes part in the third main process, called Communicating & Selling, which is lead by our retail organization.

IKEA’s business idea is to offer a wide range of well designed, sustainable and functional home furnishing products at low prices so that as many people as possible will be able to afford them. IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult creates the global range and steer our global supply chain. The main purpose with this project is to determine the environmental performance of the existing IKEA range from a number of set criteria. By evaluating the environmental performance of the products, the areas where improvements are possible and make the biggest impact will be visualized.

The focus will be on two IKEA business areas: Lighting and Living room & Workspaces.
IKEA has developed a new tool, the Sustainability product score card, to measure the environmental performance of products. For development of new products the tool is used to trigger improvements of the product in its development process. For the existing range e.g. the products already sold in store today, this evaluation is not made. The scope of this project is therefore to:
• Collect information and data needed to do the score cards.
• Assess the products and make sure that all articles have the score cards done.
• Provide recommendations of improvements based on the results of this assessment.

We are looking for two students who have a:
• Environmental / Sustainability knowledge.
• Fluent in English: written and spoken.
• Proficient in using MS Word/Excel.

As a person you have power of initiative, are self managed and have interest to network within the organization. You are able to communicate in a clear and simple way and you are methodical and structured.

You will be expected to work on this project part time in Älmhult. This project will start in January 2012.
