An algorithm for finding minimal load interruption costs

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Power systems are subjected to slow and fast dynamics that can drive them to instability. Transmission system operators are responsible for maintaining the stability of the system. To do so, they take corrective and preventive actions following an emergency. These actions have intrinsic costs (such as interruption costs for load shedding), but they are necessary to avoid greater costs that arise if the power system becomes unstable. In order for the TSOs to take optimal decisions, it is therefore important that they can evaluate these latter costs and weigh them against the cost of the corrective and preventive actions.

The expected output of this Master's thesis project is an algorithm that finds the optimal load-shedding decision given a specific emergency scenario. The algorithm should be written in Matlab and use PSAT, a Matlab toolbox for power system analysis.

The student will sit at the department of Electric Power Systems, at KTH. Upon completing the Master’s thesis project, the student will receive a payment of 35850 SEK.
