Platform design for volumetric interaction.
Within this work, a platform and application programming interface (API) for interaction should be developed using provided volumetric sensory data. The work will include iterative steps to synchronize the hardware technology used to the developed platform.
At present, touch screens provide a screen direct two dimensional interface for user interaction. This is useful but it also limits the users potential for interacting with possible computer software. Extending the interface into space immediately in front of the screen allows for more complex interaction schemes which can be more intuitive. However, in order for applications to be written using this type of interaction, a standard API needs to be in place.
Content of work
The work starts with an introduction to the technology used. A detailed set of design goals will described and specified, and an overall vision and idea of the finished platform will be presented. Thereafter, the work is divided into 5 parts which sequentially shall be completed and reported upon.
A survey of previous and similar solutions.
A design for a proof of concept (POC) solution including both hard- and software.
Implementation and evaluation of POC.
Theoretic finalization of system design.
Construction and evaluation of platform.
The work is then finalized with an overall report, documentation and presentation.
The scope and level of the work (bachelor/master) will also be attuned to the number of participants (1/2).
The work is done at i4sense:s office in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Good programming implementation skills (C / C++ or other same level language)
Knowledge of Windows environment, and APIs.
Creative and good implementation skills in industrial design is a plus.
