Vibration measurements for alarm systems

Background:
Theft of fuel from the tanks of construction machines is an increasing problem. Mechanical protection of tank cap does not protect against drilling or sowing holes in the tank. A vibration detector could perhaps be used in an alarm system to identify such theft attempts.

The company HK innovation is currently maketing a tank cap protection device under the brand name TankGuard. They are interested in develping a vibration alarm device. The thesis will be performed at Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (KTH)

Problem statement:
The result of the thesis is expected to be a vibration measurement method and an evaluation of its applicability to identify thefts attempts and to discriminate against vibrations in normal use. The role of sensor placement should be investigated. Depending on the interest of the student, the practical implementation of a more complete alarm device could be considered in the project. The project will include practical experiments.

Competence in signal processing and measurement technology are important for the project.
