Improved refining efficiency through chemical de-flocculants

In papermaking, refining of pulp fibres is one of the most important process operations since it determines the final properties of the paper sheet to a large extent. Refining of fibres is considered as treatment of fibre flocs.
One hypothesis that is proposed is that a well dispersed fibre suspension is more beneficial for the refining efficiency than a fibre suspension with large strong flocs. The dispersion of fibre flocs can be changed by addition of different chemicals.
In this work, addition of different chemicals during refining will be investigated on laboratory scale. The work includes both laboratory refining and rhelogical measurements.
