Diploma project: Pillar gate devices for gas sensing

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
The scanning light pulse technique (SLPT) is a chemical sensing method that utilizes a 2D micro-positioned laser beam to locally interrogate a chemically sensitive field effect device, typically, metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors with semi-transparent gates.
The pillar gate devices are an exploratory concept aimed at enabling the unrestricted choice of functional sensing materials by contrast to conventional devices which must also be an efficient biasing electrode.
A forest of pillars with different functional materials on their tips is used in combination with a grid-gate device to provide a controlled sensing micro-environment at the artificial interface between sensing material and oxide surface.
In this project pillar-gate devices will be demonstrated utilizing previously developed photolithographic tools. The project consists of the fabrication and characterization of the proposed devices and involves work at the clean room facilities at IFM and the SLPT characterization of the devices at the Division of Applied Physics.
The target candidate is a physicist or electrical engineer interested to engage experimental research in applied physics.
