New modelling approach of hydraulic systems

Numerical simulations of hydraulic systems are gaining more and more importance since the evaluation of a hydraulic system not only consists of technical aspects but also the dynamic properties of the system have to be considered as well. One of the main disadvantages with the hydraulic system models is the fact that it contains stiff equations because of the very small compressibility of the oil. A new approach replaces the stiff elastic couplings of the system by unilateral constraints. This leads to a significant reduction of the computing time.

The task of this project is to model a simple hydraulic circuit containing some basic compo-nents and compare the results of the new approach with the existing hydraulic models. The model should also be validated on a real hydraulic test-rig. Also the friction influence on the test-rig and components and its characteristics should be investigated.

Duration: 6 months
Prerequisite: Interests in issues relevant to control, mechatronics and hydraulics
