Creating an interface between theory and experiment

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Metallic multilayer physics is a perfect area for combining experiment and theory. Very well developed high accuracy measurements and the Nobel prize winning density functional theory makes it possible to do calculations of exactly the same systems as are produced in the laboratory. Unfortunately are theory and experiment developed separately as methods of investigating the reality throughout history. The aim of this project is to contribute directly to the research frontier by providing a tool for direct communication between the two fields of physics. The problem is that many experiments on metallic multilayers are performed by measuring hysteresis loops and the interpretation of them is not straightforward. By experience, we have found that if theorists and eperimentalists should be able to communicate efficiently we need a nice and easy computer program that can simulate the hysteresis loops from theoretically calculated parameters. In that way we would get a platform with directly comparable results where the interpretation of hysteresis loops would serve as the interface. We are looking for a person that can make such a simulation program with an easy user interface. Most of the equations are known but some simple adjustments and derivations may be needed to adapt the theory to multilayers. The project may suite as a summer job or exam work for masters degree.
