Android Phone Integration
A set-top box (STB) is today controlled by a normal IR-based remote control. In addition to this it would be a value-adding feature to control the STB with the use of a Android-based device, such as the Motorola DROID/Milestone.
(Not a requirement that it needs to that exact model, any Android device will do).
Proof-of-concept that it is possible to control the STB by means of an Android-based device.
•Android-device should be able to control the STB just as a normal IR-based remote control.
•Investigate which physical medium and data protocol that is suitable for the communication between the STB and the Android-device.
•Investigate what type of information/data the new communication link can be used for.
The details of the goals for this project will be decided in collaboration with the student(s) and is up for discussion. Scope is highly flexible depending on the number of students and their previous experiences in this field.
Students own ideas regarding Android and STB´s are very welcome!
10 - 20 weeks for one/two students.
Project can likely be scaled up/down depending on number of people and weeks.
• Student in computer science, Bachelor/Master degree.
• Good Linux skills.
• Previous experience of programming for Android-based devices is not required but is of course a highly rated skill for this project
• Familiar with UI development.
