A sensor access platform for cross mobile OS use

Background
Today different types of sensors are available in many mobile phone models and platforms. These sensors range from the microphone via build in GPS to accelerometers. In the future there will be even more sensors. Unfortunately if one implements an application that uses one or more of these sensors for one OS platform, it is a significant effort to move it to another platform. The main application needs to be custom, but it would be significantly easier if the sensing access had the same interfaces.

The thesis work
This thesis work is ultimately to design, implement and evaluate a cross mobile OS platform for sensing assess and interaction. On the way there you need to investigate and describe the issues with cross mobile OS design and implementation and identify recommended practice. Below is a top level list of tasks we foresee are needed.

•Investigation of best practice for cross mobile phone OS development
•Evaluation and summary of in-vehicle mobile device sensor devices and interaction with these
•Investigation of remote sensor interfaces for the different OSs and how to best deal with accessing and interaction with remote sensing (Bluetooth etc).
•Design and implement cross mobile OS sensor access and interaction (if possible also for remote sensors)
•Write final report
