Immunoregulatory effects of stromal cells from placenta

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Stromal cells with stem cell potency can be isolated from human term placenta. These cells also have immunoregulatory properties and we are studying how stromal cells from placental tissue affect immune responses. Ultimately, we are interested in evaluating the clinical effect of placental stromal cells on graft-versus-host disease in hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients.

The student we are looking for will focus on studying how stromal cells from placenta affect alloantigen-specific T cells in vitro and try to identify potential mechanisms for the suppressive effect. Approaches for trying to potentiate the immunoregulatory effect will be explored. As part of this project you will learn how to isolate stromal cells from placental tissue and to culture these cells. Other laboratory techniques that will be used in this particular project include flow cytometry and ELISA.

We are interested in candidates with an interest in basic immunology and translational research. Previous experience in cell culture and flow cytometry is an advantage, but not necessary. We are primarily looking for a student who has considered continuing working in science and is interested in doing a PhD, but other applicants are also welcome.
