Solar Energy in Developing Countries

Solar home systems (SHS) could be an excellent fit for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol because they directly displace greenhouse gas emissions while contributing to sustainable rural development. Selling certified emission reduction credits (CER) under the CDM could help to accelerate SHS deployment. ICT4MPOWER project initiated by Karolinska University Hospital and Ericsson AB in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in Uganda are looking for the possibility of applying for CDM certificate.
Specific tasks in the thesis work include:
1. To investigate and research the CDM- and CER market.
2. Do develop a business model for SHS and CDM
3. To prepare relevant documents and providing related guidance in CDM-applying and CER-selling process.
4. To develop templates in order to apply for CDM in East Africa, especially Uganda.
5. To investigate potentiall buyers of CER for the project
Required skills:
Knowledge in energy and energy systems
Knowledge and experience in market research and business development
It is of a merit if applicant has previous experience from CDM and CER
Other skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to manage multiple tasks, achieve goal under deadlines.
Excellent team work skills
