Indoor positioning for mobile phones
Ascom Wireless Solutions deliver on-site wireless communication solutions to customers all over the world. Areas ranging from industry, hospitals, secure establishments and elderly care to the retail sector and hotels all benefits from the smart integration of our tailor-made solutions. We develop and produce, among others, cordless telephones, pagers and alarm transmitter.
Good indoor positioning performance is of vital importance for Ascom. Many applications are based on information where each mobile phone user is located in a building. Present positioning system used, is based on wireless short range beacons transmitting location information. This is a very robust solution, but positioning resolution is totally based on number of beacons installed. One way to improve positioning resolution would be to use modern sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope and compass in the mobile and calculate position based on dead reckoning.
The purpose of this master thesis is to make a working demo for indoor positioning, based in dead reckoning.
20 weeks for two persons
Technical area, competence demands:
Mathematics, programming and some basic hardware design.
Generally the following parts should be included:
- Identify included requirements
- Plan activities and time
- Literature search
- Theoretical calculations, simulations
- Demo build
- Verification and analysis
- Writing a report
