Enterprise Architecture Modeling at KTH

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
In recent years, Enterprise Architecture (EA) has become an established discipline for both business and software system management. EA describes the fundamental artifacts of business and IT as well as their interrelationships in a single aggregate model. Architecture models constitute the core of the approach and serve the pur-pose of making the complexities of the real world understandable and manageable. Architecture models have three main functions: 1) documentation and communica-tion, 2) analysis, and 3) planning and design of the enterprise architecture. These three purposes, providing decision support for the stakeholders, are in turn crucial to the success of management tasks such as IT/business alignment, product plan-ning, IT-governance, business development, and business process consolidation.

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering. KTH has 13.814 full-time equivalent students of whom 6.955 at Bachelor level, 5.545 at Master level, and 1.314 full-time equivalent students at doctoral studies, as well as 3.900 employees.
KTH might be a school but KTH is also an enterprise like any other, with com-plex IT systems supporting critical business processes. Thus, KTH is also in need of Enterprise Architecture models in order to manage their IT strategy and soft-ware product portfolio.

This master thesis will focus on modeling the enterprise architecture of the Royal Institute of Technology based on the most common EA frameworks, methods, and tools.
