Moving towards component based software development for train control applications

Without propulsion and control equipment, no rail vehicle can move. In the end, this equipment defines the vehicle’s performance. Bombardier Transportation provides the complete chain of propulsion and control equipment for all types of rail vehicles. In this thesis work you will work at the TCMS, Train Control and Management System, department in Västerås responsible for application development.
TCMS is the control system that coordinates, integrates and put all other components together, developing the brain and nerves of the train.
At TCMS we are continuously working with improvements to make us more effective in the application development; this thesis is titled “Moving towards component based software development for train control applications”. The thesis work consists of identifying today’s methods, identifying where we can cut costs, suggest new ways of working, identify, recommend and propose solutions for a more module based software development.
