New technologies to study the brain - Optogenetics

Our laboratory is at the frontier of neuroscience, combining direct manipulation of neurons in the intact animal brain together with analysis of neuronal activity and animal behavior. Our goal is to directly prove the contribution of specific neuronal types to defined behaviors. We have developed and are using optogenetic tools as well as other molecular tools including genetically modified viruses. The student is expected to actively participate in our research and be deeply involved in a project characterizing the function of neurons within the limbic system for reward behaviors and depression. The laboratory consists of 3 postdocs and 2 graduate students and is involved in many local and international collaborations, providing an exciting scientific atmosphere.
Experience with molecular techniques, animal work or programming/engineering is an advantage.
