Time-Resolved Laue Diffraction of a Bacterial Reaction Center

The project:
The project includes cell culturing, purification and crystallization of the bacterial reaction center of Blastochloris viridis and subsequent Laue X-ray diffraction studies. You will work on optimizing an existing protocol and will have access to state-of-the-art equipment including an in-house X-ray source and advanced purification systems. You will work in the group of Richard Neutze at the University of Gothenburg in close collaboration with a Ph.D student and an assistant professor.
You will also be able to join at least one trip to one of the large synchrotrons in Europe such as Diamond (Oxford, UK), SLS (Villigen, Switzerland) or ESRF (Grenoble, France).
Qualifications:
The applicant should have an interest in biology/biochemistry/physics and practical knowledge about common biochemical techniques such as purification and crystallization, particularly of membrane proteins.
