Biosensor using MEMS cantilevers

Does it sound interesting to do your final thesis (exjobb) in Istanbul, Turkey?

This research project combines micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) with microoptical systems to develop a high-sensitivity biosensor. Adhesion of molecules to a microcantilever can be measured with very high precision, either through static bending due to change in stress or through changes in the dynamic characteristics of the cantilever. The sensor will feature optical readout, which will provide multiple innovative additions as opposed to its counterparts in different fields.

This is an ongoing project and precisely which task is to be assigned to the thesis can't be decided until we know when you will start to work and what your personal interests are.

The Optical Microsystems Laboratory at Koç University which would fit well for a final thesis, most of which are in the area of MEMS and/or optics. All interested candidates should send an e-mail to Sven Holmström.
