Master of Science Thesis Work – ODEEP software development

QRtech has a long history within the field of automotive electronics and software. Electronic Control Units (ECUs) to vehicles has been developed for more than 20 years. Today QRtech is a leading contract development supplier of ECUs and a development partner to number of vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.

A big change in the software architecture for control systems in vehicles is currently taking place. Today’s technology is based on independent ECUs connected by networks. There is no standard architecture for the different ECUs and typically there are different suppliers for each ECU. Since there can be up to 50 ECUs connected by networks the systems are very complex. This has become a large problem. Software quality is hard to achieve and software development cost has increased. Several initiatives to standardize the architecture of automotive software from the European automotive industry have been taken. This is of course a huge task and several attempts have been unsuccessful. However, the last attempt called AUTOSAR (www.autosar.org) seems to be successful and therefore suppliers are now adapting their software to the AUTOSAR standard.

QRtech has a platform called ODEEP (Open Dependable Electrical and Electronics Platform) for vehicle applications. Electronics and a lot of software have been developed but a lot also remains and parts are not fully AUTOSAR compliant. The task of the thesis work is to develop AUTOSAR compliant software for the ODEEP.

The work consists of:
• Studies concerning ODEEP technology
• Studies of the international AUTOSAR project
• Specification , development and verification of software
• Definition and development of a demonstration application

The required skill and interest covers specification and programming of embedded control systems based on single chip computers, electronics for I/O to computers and PC-programming. Practical experience of the application field is of great value. Two Master of Science Diploma workers are needed for this work and their skill and interest might overlap or complement. The work is to be started in September 2006.
