Modelling of RF-design at board level for Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS)

Infineon Technologies in Kista (former Ericsson and Siemens Microelectronics Divisions) design and deliver SW and chip sets for the wireless communication standards Bluetooth/DECT/UWB and AGPS.

GPS is a world wide navigation system consisting of up to 27 satellites orbiting the world every 12 hours. Each satellite transmits a unique code every 1ms at a very low signal level. By measuring the time for receiving the code and calculating distance to at least four satellites your own position can be determined.

Global positioning is one of the very new applications for mobile phones and this is now done by using assistance data from the network, thereby providing better performance than standard GPS. Also GPS using Bluetooth as a natural link over short distances to the mobile phones, PCs, and PDA is growing rapidly on the market and are interesting application. Through an Infineon one chip solution now even in-door positioning can be realised in mobile applications.

The work mainly consists of developing an optimized RF-design with a modelling for external parts and carrier. Final goal of the thesis work is to create a functional Radio Frequency design environment for developing new optimised verification and customer designs.
You shall be M.Sc. student or the equivalent, with a strong interest in RF and software tool engineering.
