Modelling of cell turnover in the adult human body

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
A position is available for a person with strong mathematical/modelling skills to work with a group of biologists interested in determining cell turnover in the adult human body. We have developed a unique was of determining the age of a population of cells, and now wish to model this data in order to maximise the information such studies can tell us. Whilst the technique we employ is applicable for looking at cell turnover in many regions of the adult body, our primary interest is looking at neuronal turnover in the brain, heart and fat. We wish to not just determine if there is cell turnover in these regions, but to what extent, and how other parameters (such as age, sex, health/disease status, IQ etc.) affect this turnover.

We are looking for someone with a strong mathematical background that would be interested in working with us to help construct and test different models to explain what could be going on in our biological system. Background on the project can be read in a previous publication:
Spalding et al., (2005) “Atmospheric 14C from bomb tests aids in dating human neurons” Cell 122:133-143.
