Sintering of porous materials

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
A sintering technique for making porous bulk materials of zeolites in large scale at low cost is to be developed. Zeolites are compounds having very regular micro-porous structures that are up to about 20Å in diameter. Zeolites are used in many applications such as in catalysis, gas separation, molecular sieves etc.
The intention is that the micro-pores of the zeolite crystals should survive the sintering and macro-pores should be introduced. Commercially available zeolite powders are to be used as starting materials. The macro-pores will provide high diffusion rates through a bulk material so that a gas or a liquid can penetrate and make the micro-pores available as those are the active sites in the material.
The phase purity of promising sintered materials will be investigated by powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD), the microstructure will be investigated by use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the surface area will be evaluated by BET surface measurements.
