Enterprise Information Management
In order to come to grips with the enterprise information, a number of issues need to be resolved. Firstly, there is a need for an understanding of the kind of information managed in the enterprise. What informational concepts exist and what meaning is ascribed to them? What is meant by concepts such as asset, customer, contract, etc? Some of these concepts are of strategic importance for the business, while others are not. The kinds of information therefore need to be prioritized according to their importance. Secondly, the information needs to be identified within the enterprise. What processes, organizational units and information systems produce, store and consume a certain set of information? Thirdly, there is a need for a (mainly technical) infrastructure coordinating the information across the enterprise, ensuring that different systems employ the same information in the same manner and ensuring that all information of a certain kind is consistent.
Here we propose a set of three parallel master thesis projects answering the following three questions:
1) On a high level, what are the important information concepts in Vattenfall and what is the relative strategic importance of these concepts?
2) Within Vattenfall, what processes, organizational units and information systems produce, store and consume information in the maintenance management domain?
3) What is a good technical infrastructure for Enterprise Information Management at Vattenfall?
These three projects will be executed by three different master thesis workers. The projects are individual, but considerable interaction is expected among the thesis workers.
