Size and shape variation of glaciofluvial deposits

The aim of this project is to study the change in size and shape distributions within a glaciofluvial deposit and contrast this to that of the local till. Two new methods will be tested in the field. One method is a special sieve analysis method, which measures clasts up to boulder size. The other uses image analysis, pictures of the particles, to evaluate the size and shape of the gravel and cobble size particles. These methods are to be tested for accuracy.
One glaciofluvial deposit will be studied. Samples will be analysed in the field. Sample sites will be chosen so they yield information about the lateral and vertical variations of the particle size and shape distribution.
In the area adjacent to the glaciofluvial deposit several samples will be analysed in the till. This will allow us to evaluate the difference in size and shape distribution of particles in glaciofluvial versus till.
