A Generic Platform for High Speed Real-Time Analog-to-Digital Interfaces
In many electronic systems developed at Acreo AB there is a need for investigating the properties of analog signals. Since signal processing is preferably done in the digital domain, the analog signal must be converted using an Analog-to-Digital Converter, ADC. For realtime
signal processing of the digital output from the ADC a fast interface to the PC is required. A suitable candidate for this interface is the USB 2.0 standard; USB 2.0 is a serialinterface with a theoretical transfer rate of 480Mbit/sec.
The task is to develop a generic platform that includes an ADC and a USB 2.0 interface connected to a PC. This require adaptation of the firmware supplied by the USB manufacturer and development of software that performs basic signal processing functions, such as Fast Fourier Transforms on the received data. The software shall include a user friendly interface and be easy to modify when new requirements emerge. Fast adaptation to new project applications put high demands on the system architecture as well as on the system documentation.
Together with Acreo employees develop a system and
test specification for the system.
