Implementation av standardbaserad kommunikationslösning för styrning av vattenkraftstationer

The newly issued standard IEC 61850 Communication networks and systems in substations has been introduced for the possibility of communication between different vendor's equipment. It has been demonstrated at different workshops, ref. to CIGRE meeting in Paris, august 2004, where a lot of vendors where connected together and demonstrated the real-time information exchange between different equipment. The standard defines how to communicate over Ethernet-based networks using different layers in OSI-stack

In April 2004 was a new group started within IEC, TC57/WG18, for defining how to use IEC 61850 for Hydro Power Stations.
In hydro power stations Programmabnle Logic COntrollers (PLC's) for control functions as well as PC's for HMI and gateways. The PLC's and PC's are connected in a station bus system based on Ethernet. The PLC's has also a fieldbus connection for distributed devices such as other PLC's.

The thesis is divided in three parts/research fields and has three objectives:
1. Investigate if it's possible to implement those mechanisms defined in IEC61850 into a PLC
2. Do the implementation of the communication mechanisms into a PLC
3. If possible do the implementation of some of the Logical Nodes defined in the standard

This thesis project will be performed at Alstom Hydro Power Systems and EKC kompetenscentrum för Elkraftteknik.
