Automatic Regression Tests of a Message Based Telecom Software Application
In the business-to-business relationship between telecom operators, buying and selling of voice traffic takes place. Telecom operators target segments of the market, as wholesalers, retailers or service providers. Ascade delivers an advanced telecom Business Operations System for telecom operators in the wholesale business.
The system, Carrier Cockpit¿, is a message based modularized software developed in Visual Basic. Since the architecture supports XML messages there are a straight forward way of testing the system, sending in messages and verify the response. This testing process is in a theoretical manner easy to understand but has proved to be very complex to implement. Focus for all our quality assurance is that it must be automated and modularized.
The main objective of the thesis is to strengthen the quality assurance of the product. This involves improving the process of integrating tests with development; improve the current automatic testing tool; strengthen the correlation between testing and the development process; improving the complete test work flow such as improving usability, error handling and test reports of the test tool. The report should include an analysis of how automatic testing is performed at Ascade, guidelines of how automatic regression tests could/should be preformed, suggestions of how Ascade can improve the automatic testing process.
The candidate should have a very good academic track record. He/She should also have a strong interest in software development and understanding the importance of testing. Applicants are believed to have an academic background in computer science engineering. Female applicants are encouraged.
Ascade is an independent Swedish software company, founded in 1997, totally dedicated to developing solutions for the carrier wholesale industry.
