Computational A Posteriori Error Estimation for the Cahn-Hilliard Equation

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Adaptive finite element methods are becoming basic tools for numerical computations of partial differential equations. The goal of adaptive algorithms is to optimize computational resources to achieve efficiency while the computational error is controlled on a given tolerance level. The algorithms are often based on a posteriori error estimates that is estimated in terms of quantities computable from the approximate solution. The aim of the proposed thesis is to derive a posteriori error estimates for the Cahn-Hilliard equation using duality techniques. The Cahn-Hilliard equation models the evolution of for instance the interface separating two immiscible liquids. Such interface problems can be found in many areas of science and has practical importance in modern technology and engineering.
